Get MOG’s new iOS update!

We’ve released a sweet update to our award-winning iPhone & iPod touch app with awesome new features that our listeners have been requesting, as well as a few small changes & fixes to our app’s functionality to make our mobile music experience even better. It’s all a part of our quest to constantly improve how MOG listeners enjoy the music they love. Check out the details:

New features:
* Similar artists added to Artist pages: now enjoy more music discovery from your iPhone or iPod touch.
* Sort feature added for albums: now listeners can sort alphabetically, by release date, or by popularity when viewing an artist’s albums.
* Release dates added to album information.
* Just For You section added to homescreen with customized recommendations based on what you’ve “liked” on Facebook or listened to lately on MOG.

Changes & fixes:
* “Play Queue” button renamed “Now Playing.”
* Clicking the “play” button throughout the app will still play selected album or track, but no longer navigates the screen to the “play queue,” allowing for uninterrupted browsing.
* Going into offline mode now pauses and hides the “Download Queue.”
* Moggles (our unique feature where a listener can take a picture of an album & instantly shortcut to that album within the app) has been fixed.
* Offline (downloaded) track expiration/renewal has been optimized for better functionality.
* Other under-the-hood improvements (including BMW-related features).

Native AirPlay in our desktop app for Mac thrives on.

We had a few questions about our desktop app for Mac’s beloved native AirPlay feature.  Here’s the 411.

This feature is indeed still available, but only in the version of the app that we offer for download directly from our own site.  You can get it here.

There is one other version of the app, which is available from iTunes.  However, per Apple, we are not allowed to offer native AirPlay in that version of the app.

If you originally downloaded MOG from iTunes and want to keep native AirPlay support, you must download the version from us.  Updates to the app will not have AirPlay.

Both versions of our desktop app for Mac have all the other new features, including gorgeous full-screen album art, pop-up notifications, multiple audio output support, native Airfoil support, and AppleScript support.  Read more here.

Feel free to email us at support@mog.com if you have any questions.  Happy listening!

Holy Newness! Our catalog, desktop AND web players get even more awesome.

We have sweet news about our catalog, desktop and web players this week, and we’re excited to fill you in! Check out the highlights:

Catalog:

* Growing: Our Catalog has reached over 14 million tracks…and counting!

Desktop Player for Mac:

* Pop-up notifications: To more seamlessly integrate the MOG listening experience for our multi-tasking users, we’ve added notifications that pop-up when a new song starts. We’re building in a feature so listeners can turn these on and off, and Growl users can control these notifications using its robust notification system’s built-in settings.

* Multiple audio output support: Users now have more options to syndicate MOG’s high-quality audio streaming to other devices and switch between a number of audio sources (Bluetooth, optical, etc.) by clicking on the audio-out icon located in the bottom right corner of the player.

* Native Airfoil support: Our many Airfoil users can elect to use this great app (instead of our native multiple audio output) to control playback to multiple wireless speakers and devices, including AppleTV, etc.

* AppleScript support: Developers can now script off our application using AppleScript to create remote controls, widgets, etc.

* Gorgeous full-screen support for OS 10.7 Lion: From the play queue, listeners can now immerse themselves in a high-resolution visual experience by clicking the full-screen button in the upper-right hand corner of the player to display the now-playing track’s full-screen album art.

* Bug fixes & behind-the-scenes enhancements.

Very Important: MOG’s desktop player for Mac still includes built-in AirPlay support, but listeners who wish to take advantage of this feature must download the app from mog.com instead of through iTunes. You can get it right here: http://mog.com/#!computer

Web Player:

* New recommendations: Discovery tools on MOG continue to be best of breed and they just got EVEN better! “Just For You” now recommends albums by similar artists to those you’ve favorited and listened to, for deeper, richer discovery. Our continuing goal is to let MOG do the work for our listeners by constantly improving the way we help our listeners discover new music that they’ll love.

* Shuffle: Users can now shuffle their play queue — something we know our users will LOVE since its been the #2 requested feature. Add a bunch of tracks to your queue and shuffle away!

* Links to support, press, and more: We’ve added links to the other parts of mog.com within the player for a better, more informational experience (if you want it!)

MOG/Facebook awesome-ification

Hi all!  We’ve been busy as bees in the wake of our integration with Facebook Music to ensure that you’re getting all the great features of MOG that we want you to enjoy.  Here’s a quick overview:

* We’ve received clarification that you may or may not always see your own plays in Facebook’s realtime ticker – so if they’re sometimes not showing up, it’s because Facebook filters some of them out during periods of particularly high traffic.  The other place on Facebook where music lives is here.

* Facebook share buttons from our web player are now operational again – thanks for your patience while we worked closely with Facebook to optimize them.

* Just a reminder – to see your “Just for You” and “Inspired by your friends” personalized recommendations, you must be Facebook connected (they draw from you and your friends’ artist “likes”).

* We recommend signing out of MOG & Facebook & clearing your cache, then relaunching your browser to see these upgrades instantly.

More neat stuff:
* An iOS update is coming in the next week or two with great playback improvements.
* An Android update is in development and will be available within the next couple months.

MOG is thrilled to launch our Facebook integration

We are beyond excited to tell the world that our award-winning streaming music service will be integrated with Facebook to offer our listeners an incredible, next-level social music experience.  We announced our integration today at f8, Facebook’s developer conference.

We think this is especially wonderful because we now offer an awesome free version of our service.  That means any person with a Facebook account can enjoy the new social MOG music experience on Facebook for free, as long as they have either signed up with Facebook Connect or activated it via MOG’s “My Settings”.

“We put blinding focus on making it drop dead easy to find the music your friends are listening to. Through Facebook Platform, the MOG experience is now more personal and relevant for each person, representing the pinnacle of music discovery,” said our fearless leader David Hyman.

The future of music is now!

A letter from our founder

Fellow music lovers,

It comes with great pleasure to bring you the most badass music service that has ever existed, and bring it to you for free.

Welcome to MOG.

Our little company out here in Berkeley, California, was given birth by a bunch of folks who were saved by the power of music. This is our payback to the artists that have given us so much.

We promise you’ve never experienced something like this before. The world’s collection of music is now in your possession, constantly updated, and on-demand. Any album or song your heart desires is played instantly in your Web browser. No apps to install. No spyware. Totally free. And, for a radio experience? Enjoy, for the first time, online radio that can play just an artist you like. Yes, JUST that artist, with controls built-in that give you the power to discover new music with a simple slider.

How did we do this, you may ask? Well, let’s just say its been an uphill battle and we’ve been working with the labels for years to be able to provide it. For one, we support the costs of paying artists & labels with advertising. (You won’t see any for the first 60 days, a gift). We support it with the hopes that you’ll love it so much that you’ll want to eventually pay to get an ad-free experience and have access on your iPhone or Android phone. And eventually, you will have to either put some quarters in our digital music jukebox, or turn friends on, which lets us put more free music in your virtual music gas tank. We give you lots of ways to keep the free going, if that’s your choice.

Please let us know how you like it. Tweet it out and we’ll respond. We’d love your input.

Sincerely,

David Hyman
Founder
